남위 34°52’, 동경 19°50’에 있다. 포르투갈어로 ‘바늘’이라는 뜻이며, 끝이 뾰족한 암초에서 유래한다. 등대가 있으나 앞바다에 아굴라스 암초가 있어 항해자들에게 위험한 지점으로 여겨져 왔다. 아굴라스 암초 부근은 남아프리카 연안에서 가장 우수한 트롤 어장의 하나다.

Cape Agulhas (pronounced /əˈɡʌləs/, from Portuguese: Cabo das Agulhas "Cape of Needles") is on the geographic southern tip of Africa, and the official dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian oceans. (The actual division between the oceans is the point where the Agulhas current meets the Benguela current, which fluctuates seasonally, between Cape Agulhas and Cape Point.) Historically, the cape has been known to sailors as a major hazard on the traditional clipper route and is sometimes regarded as one of the great capes.
